It is I

Issue # 133 on COB on Microsoft Live
Created October 2, 2011

Today dad ministered from a particular passage of scripture. He read from the 14th chapter of Matthew reaccounting Christ walking on the water. As we followed along, he pointed out that the human spirit is drastically different from the Spirit the disciples saw walking on the water. The calm, courageous, bold and loving Spirit of Christ strongly overpowers the fearful, doubting and overwhelmed spirit of our flesh.
As christians know that we walk a path to Christ and eternal life but we get so lost and wrapped up in the toughness of the journey. God has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. He promised He would be there when we call. But as flesh and blood, we get scared of the dark corridors and jittery at the loud noises. We run from the darkness of the valley and hide from the clouds. It is as if we forget the promises of God as quickly as we recall them. We shrink inside of how fragile and small and frail we are, while all along God shows us how mighty and powerful and gentle He is.
Peter, being a disciple was obviously standing on the deck of the ship when they all saw what they percieved to be a ghost walking on the water. But as soon as Christ identified himself, Peter got brave enough to ask Him to allow him to walk on the water. Under the guise of Christ we often feel like we can fly. Feeling the power of his might we feel invinsible...until we realize that we are not God!! Once we look around and see the stong winds and the boistering waves like Peter did, we are quickly reminded that we are Human. But, even in our humanity, like Peter, we know that when we start to sink God is there to save us.
We have to have the courage to walk out on the water to Christ. Life tosses us from side to side. We feel those spiritual bullets flying past our heads and all the effects of a spiritual warfare. But we must go on and seek Christ anyway. Thru the storm and the rain, thru valleys and over tops of mountains. Just still yourself, be quiet and you will hear what the disciples heard on the boat. "It is I, be not afraid."
