The List of Priorities

Issue # 136 on COB on Microsoft Live

Created on November 13, 2011

So I have to admit that I have not been doing what I should.I know, I know, you are perfectly justified in wagging your finger at me!While do moments of extensive Bible study when I need to prepare my lesson for Sunday school, or when I am updating the sites, I don’t really include it every day as a priority.I pick it up during the day when I need to know something, but I don’t start my day with study, which is not only a bad way to start a day for a believer but especially for a teacher!

As of recent I have started do my Pilates again to get in shape and ward of that ugly monster known as diabetes. It also helps with the pain of the fibromyalgia. As I started to put my routine together, God laid it on my heart to think about my spiritual health as heartily as I was now thinking about my physical. If I knew that including exercise would help me with my pre-diabetes status and improve my pain and overall quality of life, what about my soul?Wouldn’t reading and studying the word of God help ease my mental and emotional pain, as well as improve my overall quality of life? Why yes it would!

We always make excuses for why we don’t have time to exercise or prepare healthier meals. But when it comes to adding more of God in our lives, we as His children shouldn’t be able to find one excuse. We forget to thank God for the day, for our food and for our blessings. We even forget to read a verse or two of the Bible which is our guide book for life. What if God forgot to wake us up, bless us to breathe or lead us thru the day, working the good with the evil?We would be in bigger messes than we think we are already in.We can’t continue to sleep on God and expect His blessings to keep us in perfect peace. Our light can shine for Him if we leave it up to a dimmer to turn it on and off!

We need to get our priorities in check.Enhancing our relationship with God will help us balance our lives. We enhance our positive relationships with others and find the strength to walk away from the negative ones. When we strengthen our bond with God, we come to know Him better. To know Him is to love Him.It deepens our longing for Him and it increases our love for ourselves because we learn to love us like God does. You want to keep the body he gave you healthy, even if you suffer from something chronic or even terminal. Now your misery, whether it is physical, mental or emotional, can be your ministry.Put ‘get closer to God’ at the top of your to do list and watch as everything else falls into place.
